Indian democracy is vibrant with media playing a great role in sensationalising issues that people sitting in front of idiot-box (TV) like. Everybody in media hails an increasing economic index that I am yet to understand fully if it is realistic. However, let me believe them. This leaves me wondering if economic index is also important in calibrating violence in India.
There was significant criticism when Indian government announced of creating a multi-purpose unique identity card for each of its residents. Will it be another card to the already loaded purse on the back? - was one of the major concern looking at the budget outlay for the purpose.
With flourishing global virtual community and extensive movements of families for living and business, neighbours change rapidly. A change of surrounding can happen as per convenience, and the power of decision-making in this regard can be acquired. But not for India as a nation. It is surrounded by neighbours who are rogue and are driven by their one-point evil agenda.
As I am all set to release an information portal on Orissa in the next one month, one point forces me to think again and again: shall I consider the present state of Orissa as a revival from its feudatory past for several centuries or as a continuation of the act of crowd on this globe with short-memory? To put it in different way, I am sitting between two competing thoughts - our quest for an identity and our adaptation of a sense of equality.
